New Hope Community
Church, an interdenominational "Christ-based" congregation, will have its first
service 10 a.m. Sunday, September 16 at New Hope-Solebury High School's Stephen Buck
Memorial Theater.
Pastor Chuck Wilson said the church is being organized because people from the area felt
there was a need for a church in New Hope.
First Baptist Church of Doylestown is providing financial support and a core group to help
the new church get started. The core group of almost 100 includes individuals from seven
different denominations--including Catholics and Protestants.
Wilson, 39, was the youth pastor at Washington Crossing United Methodist Church 15 years
ago.
"I always felt my path would lead back to New Hope," he said. Since his is an
evangelist and renewal preaching ministry, he was led to the thought of a new church.
He is especially interested in establishing a youth ministry with emphasis on teen
activities. He hopes to revive a coffeehouse similar to the one that closed last spring.
Matt Myers has been appointed youth pastor.
Wilson, who lives in Plumstead with his wife, Kim, and six children age 9 and under, will
move to the North Pointe development off Route 202 and Sugan Road when their home is
ready. Kim, who grew up in Upper Makefield Township and graduated from Council Rock High
School is looking forward to coming home.
The church will also have a children's ministry and a nursery during services. "The
church already includes more children than adults," Wilson said.
Wilson has a bachelor's degree from Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Mich., a Bible degree
from Philadelphia College of Bible, Langhorne, and Master of Divinity from Trinity
Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, Ill.
He said he hopes to work in cooperation not in competition with other churches in the New
Hope area.
