Discipleship Counseling
Currently we are ministering in a local prison and we are offering discipleship and spiritual counseling to both male and female inmates. We help them to overcome strongholds to negative behavior and addictions, as well as to help them to grow in their relationship with the Lord.
Providing
Friendship Pen Pal Correspondence
This is the area where there is the greatest need for volunteers and an area in which you can make the greatest impact. We correspond with inmates for the purpose of being a friend. We send inspiring literature, birthday and Christmas cards and model godly friendship through the process. Sometimes visits are made to inmates in prison.
Providing
Correspondence Bible Discipleship
Inmates or ex-inmates who participate receive biblical messages/studies with Life Application Questionnaire lessons. Participants are also provided with study Bibles, Bible study resources and other books to assist in their Christian growth. After each series is completed, participants receive a certificate. Overcomer’s Discipleship
We provide discipleship to those who want to overcome bondage, addictions, and who want to live in freedom as a Christian. We utilize Freedom in Christ Ministries’ (Dr. Neil Anderson) and Pure Life Ministries’ (Steve Gallagher) resources and help individuals work through the processes.
Aftercare & Fellowship Ministry
Although not a “traditional” aftercare ministry, much of this ministry benefits ex-inmates. This is an adult fellowship to nurture friendships, celebrate holidays and other occasions and provide godly fun and adventure (a friendly form of discipleship!). On a flexible schedule we meet several times a month for dinner, an activity or arrange a road trip to places of interest or to visit other churches/ministries.
Aftercare Support
When possible, we offer support to the students we have disciples or established relationships with while they were incarcerated. We offer friendship and discipleship and help in the ex-inmate’s transition, assistance with resumes, interview skills and job coaching. We also offer a safe, healthy social outlet through various ministry and recreational activities as well as some transportation needs. Through networking, we also refer participants to other ministries and agencies.
Barnabus Support
Group
This is a monthly support group for ex-inmates. The purpose of the group is to provide positive support, accountability and encouragement. This support group offers a safe place for sharing the struggles of transitioning back into the community.
